With all the complaining we hear about what’s wrong with our nation, did you ever wonder why so many people still want to come here? According to a recent poll of immigrants, when asked if they could turn back time, would they still choose to come to America, the answer was a resounding “YES!” They came here because they wanted the rights and protections afforded to every American. They see the United States as a unique country that stands for something special in the world.
Most of us are American by birth, not choice, because someone else made a decision that brought our ancestors to this country. America is special, and while we may take it for granted, it is a land of opportunity and freedom unlike any other place on earth. That’s a great reason to celebrate the red, white and blue this July 4th. As we celebrate, let’s remember all those who stand for us, in and out of uniform, who have sacrificed so much to ensure our right to do so… starting 240 years ago and continuing today.
