We're thrilled to introduce the newest HealthTrust RN to win the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses! Please join us in congratulating Alana Lima-Xenakis, an RN who's dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Here's more about Alana's nursing philosophy and what she had to say about winning.
Making a 'Positive Difference' for Patients, Families
An ICU nurse working in Missouri, Alana is known for her kindness, and for her ability to make patients and families feel comforted throughout delicate situations and procedures.
And that's no accident for someone who's driven by a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of others.
"Being a critical care nurse gives me a strong sense of purpose and meaning," she told us. "I love helping people and being a resource for my patients and their families."
Giving 100% to deliver 'the Best Quality Care'
"I'm very passionate about critical care," Alana added. "And the most rewarding part is knowing that I am making some kind of positive difference. When it comes to the actual job and patient care, I try my best to give 100% in order to give the best quality care to my patients and their families."
And with six years of experience as a healthcare professional, including spending the past year as an RN in the HealthTrust network, Alana has plenty of experience putting that philosophy to work.
"Family and friends always ask me, 'How do you show up every day knowing you are likely going to see terrible and/or sad things?'
"Although it is hard work, it is my passion, and even helping one patient find comfort or improve just a little bit, or giving one family member some peace of mind with their loved one in my care, makes the job worth it. It motivates me every day," she told us.
"Winning the DAISY award validates this effort, reminds me that I am a good nurse, and makes me feel recognized and appreciated by not only my patients and their families, but also by my team and hospital."
'Never Stop Asking Questions ... Stay Curious'
Alana is also quick to praise the contributions of her co-workers to her success as a critical care nurse.
"I am not only thankful to have even been nominated, but honored to have won the DAISY award," she told us. "And I could not have won this award without my strong team."
That humility and dedication to the job is also clear in Alana's advice for those just starting on their journey as a nurse or clinician.
"Never stop asking questions," she said. "Everything, including mistakes, are a learning experience and will only help you be a stronger healthcare provider. Stay curious."
