For everyone she encounters, Amanda is the kind of nurse who not only exemplifies patient-centered care but also changes lives. More than an exceptional caregiver, she's a standout professional, known for going the extra mile to provide the attention her patients need in any given moment.
Currently working at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Virginia, Amanda has been a nurse for 16 years and part of the HealthTrust network for the past three. And during that time, she's often been described as calm, caring, attentive, patient, and willing to go above and beyond to protect those under her care.
In other words, she doesn’t hesitate to put in the extra time and effort that truly exceptional care sometimes requires. And that's because nursing is about “more than completing tasks," as she puts it — "it's about showing up for patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, ensuring they feel heard, respected, and cared for.”
For Amanda, those are more than just words. They're the basis of a nursing philosophy that shines through in everything she does.
“The most rewarding part of working with patients is being gifted with the trust of their care,” she said. “Knowing that they believe at their lowest moments that you’re there to keep them safe and as comfortable as possible.”
That dedication to exceptional service and the well-being of others make winning the DAISY Award particularly impactful for Amanda. It means "more to me than receiving recognition — it serves as a reminder that the compassion, dedication, and advocacy I strive to provide every day truly makes a difference,” she told us.
“This honor reinforces that the extra time, effort, and heart I pour into patient care are creating an impact far beyond what I may ever personally witness,” she added. “It reminds me that even the smallest acts of kindness, unwavering advocacy, and commitment to doing what's right can leave a lasting footprint in the lives of my patients and their families.
"That knowledge is what makes this work so meaningful, and it inspires me to continue providing the highest level of compassionate care every day.”
Unsurprisingly, Amanda also brings that same sense of inspiration and dedication to the advice she offers others — particularly those who may just be entering the field of nursing.
“To someone beginning their healthcare journey, my best guidance is to always ask for help when you need it," she said.
"It’s not about not knowing what to do in the situation, but how you handle the lack of knowledge," she added. "It’s okay not to know something, but being honest and open about not knowing and asking for help will take you far in your career. You will learn so much by utilizing your team and learning new skill sets.”
And, showing that she’s just as gifted at collaboration and teamwork as patient care, Amanda is quick to extend praise to her co-workers, as well, describing how her team comes together to deliver care that’s truly patient-focused.
“My team is the definition of 'one mission one fight,'" she said. "We do not hesitate to lend a hand to assist each other for the greater good of patient care. We support, advocate, educate, and hold each other accountable; to me there’s no greater way to show love.”
