A Virginia-based registered nurse specializing in labor and delivery, Summer Carpenter is known for her patience and calming spirit, as well as her ability to make people under her care feel safe, comfortable, encouraged, and heard.
Patients decide who wins a DAISY Award when they submit a nomination for a nurse who's impacted their lives. And as an L&D nurse, Summer was nominated with true enthusiasm, as well as a wish to provide some belated thanks.
Having built countless relationships that truly resonate and inspire gratitude and affection, Summer's nomination was likely just a matter of time. In addition to her strong support and rapport, she’s frequently praised for her responsiveness under pressure, quick thinking, and swift action when making decisions that matter.
‘Motivation to Keep Showing Up for My Patients’
For her part, Summer is quick to send that love and appreciation right back to her patients.
“I am beyond grateful to have won this award and will remain thankful for the rest of my career,” she told us.
“Knowing that I make a difference in people's lives is such a reward,” she added. “Confirmation that I have touched someone's life so much that they took the time out to write about it gives me the motivation to keep doing my best for my patients every day.”
Helping 'Bring Life into the World with My Co-Workers'
A nurse for 10 years and a member of the HealthTrust team for three, Summer is also enthusiastic about her co-workers. Working under the leadership of Cindy Watkins, Clinical Operations Director, Summer is quick to praise her entire team for helping her excel in her role as an L&D nursing superstar.
“Being with my co-workers to help bring new life into the world every day is the greatest reward,” she said.
'Take Each Day as a New Opportunity'
And as the latest HealthTrust DAISY Award winner, what advice would Summer give other aspiring nurses?
“Take each day as a new opportunity to learn and grow,” she told us. “Do not feel discouraged that you do not have all of the answers right away. Experience comes with time.”
