Why Celebrate Respiratory Care Week 2025?

A yearly event designed to honor and celebrate respiratory therapists (RTs) and other professionals working in respiratory care, #RCWeek is an opportunity to spread awareness about this important corner of the healthcare world, and to thank the people who do it!

Of course, as America’s leading allied health staffing company, we appreciate RTs and other respiratory care professionals all year ‘round. And we know better than most how important these clinicians are in helping people manage, prevent, and recover from respiratory conditions, and helping hospitals and other facilities treat the patients under their care!

And that’s especially true as we enter the autumn and winter months, when RTs are busier than ever. As the cold weather sets in, respiratory conditions tend to increase. And CRTs and RRTs are in the thick of it all, providing everyday procedures like patient assessment, therapy, ventilation, and pulmonary testing through to emergency treatment for life-threatening emergencies.

But as front-line workers, respiratory care professionals are also in demand all year ‘round. In addition to helping facilities cope with seasonal surges in flu, RSV, and Covid, they also treat other breathing and cardiopulmonary conditions, including asthma, sleep apnea, COPD, lung cancer, and more.

That means there are always plenty of jobs for respiratory therapists, in both permanent positions and contract, travel, and per diem roles. And it means that these hard-working folks deserve our gratitude for all of the hard work they do, and the long hours they put in — including hospital emergency rooms and CCUs, busy acute-care clinics, and other fast-paced, high-volume settings.

6 Ways to Support Respiratory Care Week 2025

So, how can you join in the celebration of #RCWEEK25 this October 19th through 25th? We’ve got a few pretty good ways!

1. Say thanks to the respiratory care professionals in your life! If you’re not a healthcare professional, you can send thank-you notes or cards to your local hospital or clinic. And if you do work in healthcare, consider organizing an event to celebrate the RTs you work with, or just treating them to lunch!

2. Share some love on social media with the #RCWEEK25 hashtag. You can find Respiratory Care Week photos and graphics to use here.

3. Educate yourself and those around you on the importance of respiratory care with resources from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

4. Check out the AARC’s collection of resources for guidance, ideas, or other help supporting respiratory care awareness, including brochures, videos, and even a guide to planning 2025 Respiratory Care Week events.

5. Get educated on why you may want to be an RT, too! The AARC also has a “Be An RT” website that’s chock full of videos and other helpful info explaining the “Why, What, and How of being an RT.”

6. If you already work in respiratory care, check out opportunities for further certifications from the NBRC to boost your career (and possibly your paycheck)—or land a great new job in respiratory care from HealthTrust! We’ve got all types of opportunities available, but we’re really in need of travelers. Learn more here.

However you choose to celebrate, make sure to share it with the AARC to really spread the love and raise awareness of the important work respiratory therapists do! Find out how here.
