Las Palmas Medical Center is a Level III Trauma, 186-private patient room, full service acute care hospital. Las Palmas Medical Center offers comprehensive healthcare and provides leading-edge technologies. Our Life care Center offers inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs, as well as our fully equipped fitness and wellness center in one convenient location. We also house the region’s only Kidney Transplant Center.

Position Summary:

To administer, analyze and appraise the care given to patients within the Department. To advise hospital management regarding the status of patient care, budgetary projections, quality improvement processes. To anticipate and estimate future needs of the Department to improve quality of patient care. To collaborate and coordinate the efforts of the staff of the Department to accomplish the mission of Las Palmas Medical Center.

Population Served

Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s):  Morbid obese adult with all co-morbid illness/conditions, including but not limited to: cardiac, pulmonary, renal and metabolic.  Orthopedic and spine surgeries including but not limited to joint replacement, spinal fusions, laminectomies, etc Bariatric surgeries such as Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band, Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, and Gastric/ Sleeve.

Essential Functions

  1. Develops and administers pediatric, adult, geriatric and adolescent services as necessary to include nursery nursing care.
  2. Promotes a multidisciplinary coordination of services, such as, nursing medical, respiratory care, laboratory, pharmaceutical and public relations.
  3. Develop, monitor, appraise and analyze budgetary goals and outcomes within the Medical Department.
  4. Administer and appraise Quality Improvement within the services provided.
  5. Control processes related to Human Resources; inclusive of hiring, evaluating, terminating, counseling, coaching and development of the staff.
  6. Direct and approve the practice of professional nursing and support positions within the services provided to maintain quality patient care through implementation and evaluation of clinical practice standards.
  7. Developinterpret, inspect and review policies and procedures within the services provides.
  8. Develop, institute, review and implement Disaster Preparedness policies and procedures for the organization.
  9. Collaborate, develops and participates in marketing of the Department, including educational program development, external advertising and working in alliance with local and regional programs.
  10. Responsible for twenty four-hour coverage and problem resolution to the services provided.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • 1.  RN licensed in state of Texas/Compact state
  • 2.  BCLS

Required Education/Experience

  • Completion of RN program  
  • Read and write basic English with the basic skills necessary to understand and transfer physician’s orders

Preferred Education, Licensure, Certification, Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Three year experience in Med-Surg

One year of management experience preferred

Certification in Med-Surg, Ortho, Bariatric, or Pain Management

Computer skills

Strong problem solving skills

Reads and writes Basic English

Ability to move in excess of 50 pounds with assistance from staff.

Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patients, families, internal and external partners, managerial and employee needs.

Compensation commensurate with experience with a salary range between $36.51-$54.77/hr
