Medical City Alliance is a 55-bed, acute care hospital that opened in February 2015.  The three-story, 155,000 square foot full-service facility serves the communities of Fort Worth, Keller, Roanoke, Haslet, Saginaw and surrounding communities in northern Tarrant county and southern Denton county. Medical City Alliance offers a full range of services, specializing in women’s, cardiology, robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, and emergency care and has been recognized by The Joint Commission for the Hospital Accreditation Program for 2015.

Summary

The Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN) is responsible for decisions and actions within the domain of nursing practice. Important aspects of this responsibility are the promotion of a safe and therapeutic environment for both the recipients and providers of nursing care; acquisition of specialized knowledge skills and additional formal education to provide specialized care; demonstration and validation of competence in nursing practice; clinical practice consistent with the policies, procedures and standards of this facility; and supervision of other staff as designated within the department.

 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
  • Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Notifies responsible practitioners of significant changes in patient condition, facilities management of follow-up care.
  • Applies principals of growth and development and age specific norms in the assessment process.
  • Practices appropriate patient safety measures in all phases of direct patient care.
  • Uses specialized equipment safely and effectively.
  • Performs duties in a safe manner
  • Understand and is able to follow procedures for Fire and Safety
  • Performs and documents patient assessments and reassessments following nursing and departmental policies and procedures, using appropriate techniques for data collection and analysis at regular and indicated intervals.
  • Assesses for potential medication, latex, and environmental/skin allergies. Ensures appropriate precautions are enacted.
  • Ensures presence of and appropriateness/completion of required preoperative documents, assessments, permits, history physical, and diagnostics.
  • Assess patient comfort/anxiety level; provide support measures appropriate to the age and culture of the patient.
  • Follows policy for bedside procedures/timeout.
  • Utilizing data collection in the assessment, and collaboration with other health care providers.
  • Formulates a plan of care, and updates as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Performs interventions based on critical thinking and technical skills assimilated from assessment, reports and information communicated by other health care providers to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Systematically ensures documentation of physician orders and their completion.
  • Administers medications using accurate calculations using age specific guidelines.
  • Uses specialized equipment and supplies safety and effectively, with adaptations according to patient age, size, and developmental needs.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythm. Can identify, interpret, and applies appropriate interventions.
  • Applies best practices to the care of sedated patients minimizing the potential for injury.
  • Achieves the expected patient outcomes or revises plan of care and implementation of care based on the results of the prescribed plan of care.
  • Evaluates and records patient response to interventions.
  • Provides accurate and complete report to oncoming nurse upon shift change or transfer of patient to other units.
  • Applies universal precautions according to potential exposure routes. Wears indicated protective barriers without supervision or reminders.
  • Demonstrates effective hand washing and surgical scrub, performed at task appropriate intervals.
  • Adherence to aseptic techniques.
  • Excellent and effective adherence to best practices identified to eliminate hospital acquired infections such as CLABSI, CAUTI, VAP, HAPU, etc.
  • Uses hospital approved cleaning solutions, chemical and procedures effectively.
  • Competent to handle food for patients safely.
  • Precepts students and new nurses.
  • Attends staff meetings/unit in-services.
  • Contributes to growth of unit by participating/contributing in unit shared governance.
  • Timely completion of all assigned educational assignments.
  • Seeks out opportunities to further/enhance nursing education, skills, and knowledge.

Qualifications

  • ADN required; BSN preferred and will be required within 3 years of employment
  • Texas State RN license or compact license is accepted; Texas State RN license required within 30 days of hire
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS issued by the American Heart Association required
  • Current ACLS issued by the American Heart Association required
  • 3 years of experience as Registered Nurse preferred

Compensation commensurate with experience with salary range between $24.12/hr - $41.37/hr.
