Pharmacist Clinical Specialist Opportunity at Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, California
Full Time – Mixed Shifts – Rotating Weekends
Under direction, reporting to the Director, Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacist Clinical Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical and consultative pharmaceutical care services to patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Clinical Services may include participating in patient care rounds, managing selected therapies, leading and serving clinical care teams, and providing staff education.
The Pharmacist Clinical Specialist promotes the safe, effective, and economically appropriate use of medications thorough out the Medical Center. Efforts may focus on specific patient types, diseases, and selected settings. Typically, Pharmacist Clinical Specialist would be assigned to a specific patient care area (e.g., Critical Care Areas, Emergency Department, Surgery) or to therapeutic modality (e.g., Antimicrobial Therapy, Glycemic Contol, Cardiology). Pharmacist Clinical Specialist efforts are directed at improving the therapeutic use of medications and controlling the cost of care by evaluating the need for and duration of medication therapies, properly adjusting medication doses for organ dysfunction, and providing guidance on selection of formulary, cost effective, and safe medication use.
The Pharmacist Clinical Specialist contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the department’s services; coaching Department staff members; participating in the orientation of staff members; facilitates in the coordination of the Department’s clinical and distributive services, representing the Director and the Department at selected meetings of medical staff, nursing, and other hospital departments, services, and activities.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy, required;
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree required;
- Completion of a General Practice PGY1 Accredited ASHP Pharmacy residency or fellowship, or equivalent experience required.
- At least 3 years of previous experience in a general acute care hospital clinical practice may be considered in lieu of residency experience. At least 1 year shall be as a Pharmacist with a significant clinical role.
- Knowledge of licensure and regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and professional standards of practice for hospital pharmacy, required.
- Current BPS Board Certification, required. Certification preferred in an acute care specialty.
- Current licensure as pharmacist by state of California, required;
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, required.
- Skill with use of Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, required; skill with use of Access and Publisher preferred.
- Completion of specialty PGY2 accredited residency preferred; most desirable experience is in acute care specialties of hospital pharmacy practice management, critical care, emergency medicine, and antibiotic therapy.
- Other certification desired (e.g., ACLS, FCCP, FASHP)

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and range from $124,800 to $145,600.
Position has Mixed Shifts – Evening Differential is $1.50/hr – Night Differential is $2.50/hr
