Shirley Ramirez is our first corporate HealthTrust Hero! Shirley has worked with the company for 18 years in the finance department and is currently in accounts payable. She was nominated for HealthTrust Hero by her colleague, Michael Reynolds, for her loyalty, respect, and selfless service, among other qualities.

Shirley started her career with HealthTrust Workforce Solutions in 1999 as an accounting clerk. The company, then called All About Staffing, was eager to help Shirley balance her professional and personal life by offering her a flexible schedule, as she was a single mother raising a young son.

“I did anything and everything I could to help the department,” says Shirley, who often worked around her son's school schedule.

Although Shirley’s degree is in communications with a minor in public relations, she always had finance in her family, as her father was a business owner in Puerto Rico and she helped his company with their finances.

Nowadays, Shirley is often one of the first team members in the office every morning and one of the last to leave. However, this is out of personal choice, as Shirley likes to ensure that her work is absolutely perfect.

“I work my best in the morning,” Shirley says with a smile. She also refuses to take her work home with her in the evening, as “work is work, and my house is my house.”

If her team ever needs to work overtime to meet a deadline, she will often bring in breakfast or other snacks for the group to ensure that everyone has a positive outlook on the day.

“I am a mom-type and they are my kids,” Shirley says about her colleagues.

We congratulate Shirley Ramirez as being our first corporate HealthTrust Hero!

She is pictured at the top of the post with Michael Reynolds and President & CEO Brendan Courtney. Her nomination can be read in full below:

“A hero, in my eyes, is one who not only acknowledges certain values, but lives by them.

  • Loyalty; bearing true faith and allegiance towards the company. Shirley has been here for 18 years.
  • Duty; fulfilling your obligations. Not only does Shirley fulfill her job requirements, practically any of the people who work around her will tell you that she will do anything to help anyone else fulfill their obligations.
  • Respect; treating people as they should be treated. Shirley is the definition of respect. She calmly and patiently deals with any attitude that approaches her, reflecting the utmost professional appearance while doing so.
  • Selfless service; putting the welfare of others before your own. Shirley has, as previously mentioned, gone beyond her job duties to ensure that everyone who interacts with her has benefited from the interaction. She strives to build community among the workplace, so that people truly enjoy being at work.
  • Honor; living up to these values. I can go on and on about the relentless hours that Shirley puts in, often the first one here in the morning and the last one to leave at night to ensure that her position in finance is as efficient and profitable as humanly possible, but her honor rests on the fact that she is overly willing to lift everyone around her and to ensure that ALL of finance runs effectively through her influence, regardless of how minute that may be in certain areas. Her goal is to ensure that she leaves everything she comes into contact with in a better state than where it was before her.
  • Integrity; doing what's right, legally and morally. I have no idea what Shirley's criminal history looks like, but I would put my life in her hands knowing that she has a moral compass better than most, and I would have absolutely no hesitation doing so. She ties that into her work, never compromising on anything which could remotely be deemed wrong.

There are several heroes in my office and for that, I am truly honored, but I cannot conceive anyone being more deserving of this initial title and setting a bar for which we should all strive to achieve. With all that I know to be right, I nominate Shirley Ramirez.”
