With many children across the country going back to school this month, parents know that transitioning into the school routine can be difficult for children. From changing schools to making new friends, children can experience anxiety about going to class, especially at the beginning of the year.
To help families combat the back-to-school jitters, USA Today shares 12 Ways to Help Kids Cope with School Anxiety including:
- Visiting the school. Being on-campus before classes begin helps children to become comfortable with where their classrooms and other school amenities are located.
- Making transitions early. Children who are exposed to the school setting early, such as by attending preschool, adapt better to changing school environments later down the road.
- Having a discussion. Finding the root of a child’s anxiety can help parents to properly alleviate the child’s fears.
