‘Pouring my Entire Heart into the Care I Provide’
Winning a DAISY award is a major accomplishment for any nurse. But for Kolby, who was nominated while working in a facility recognized as one of America's 250 Best Hospitals, that award is particularly impressive — it means his quality of care stands out among one of the best healthcare teams in the United States.
And that takes more than clinical skill, but also compassion and empathy — two words that are often used to describe him.
Time and time again, patients and families praise Kolby's dedication to keeping them fully informed and up to date, from admittance through discharge, and every stage in between. And that means not just attentiveness, but an ability to relate important info in a way that people immediately understand and can take comfort from.
He’s even known to visit patients on days where he’s stationed elsewhere, and to check in even when he’s not providing direct care — to help them feel comfortable, and because he honestly cares.
“For me, nursing involves me pouring my entire heart into the care I provide for my patients and their families,” he told us. “I love knowing that something I did helped improve someone’s life.”
Care Built on ‘All of the Love I Share with Others’
In other words, Kolby is a nurse who truly makes a difference, and whose attention to detail stands out even when surrounding by one of America’s best healthcare teams.
And listening to him describe his motivations, it’s not hard to understand why.
“There is no better feeling in the world that getting to witness someone feel better after you have helped them,” he told us.
For the many people whose lives Kolby has touched, that feeling is mutual. Kolby is frequently described as more than an exceptional nurse, but as someone who's literally unforgettable, and who goes out of the way to make things easier for the people under his care, as well as their loved ones and caregivers.
Inspired by the ‘Relationships I Get to Build’
A nurse since 2019, Kolby has been with HealthTrust Workforce Solutions since May 2025 — enough time for him to truly stand out as a top performer. And he’s quick to attribute that success to the inspiration he takes from helping others, and “the relationships I get to build with my patients,” as he puts it.
After all, nursing has its challenging days, just as with any job — but “the good days make you feel on top of the world, like a superhero!”
To that end, winning the DAISY award “has replenished my tank, and I have felt all of the love I share with others returned tenfold! It’s refilled my energy and allowed me to continue providing patients and their families with the best care I’m able to provide,” he told us.
“Winning a DAISY has always been a dream of mine,” he added. “This award is the most accomplished I’ve ever felt!”
‘Treat Everyone with Kindness!'
So, what motivates an award-winning nurse to deliver care at this level?
“Knowing that a short time ago we were strangers, but by the end of their hospital stay (or sometimes by the end of the shift) we become close enough that I feel more like a friend rooting for them to get better” is how Kolby approaches his job, each and every day.
That instinct to put others first is also at the heart of the advice he offers to others, especially those just beginning their nursing career journey.
“Humility is key! It’s impossible to know absolutely everything about healthcare,” he said. “It’s too broad and it’s constantly evolving. So, approach every new lesson with genuine curiosity, never be scared to ask for help, and treat everyone with kindness!”
