Alma Ramirez joined HealthTrust Workforce Solutions (HWS) on August 22, 2016, having no experience in the staffing industry. A former patient representative, Alma was hired as a program professional for HWS’s permanent placement division. Now, Alma has become a valuable resource in her department, having earned two Making Workforce GREAT employee recognitions within her first month of employment.
“I had never worked with vendors or suppliers before,” Alma says. In this context, a vendor is another staffing agency that may not have the name recognition or reach of HWS. These vendors enter into contracts with the company to gain better access to the jobs offered by the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) and other large healthcare operators.
Alma’s job involves screening potential vendors for partnerships with HWS. A potential vendor must have a significant footprint in the healthcare staffing industry both in their geographic locations and in sought-after specialties, such as NICU nursing, to be considered for partnership. The vendor must also have no existing ties to HWS or its affiliates, such as parent-company HCA.
Since these vendors are found all over the United States, Alma requires a video interview through Montage as part of the application process. She filmed herself asking a series of questions which then must be answered in a video by the vendor within 72 hours.
If the vendor passes the screening, their company can begin forwarding resumes of nurses and other healthcare professionals to Alma and her team for consideration. Approved resumes are sent to recruiters specific to each hospital.
“The resume needs to match the job,” Alma says.
In addition to screening vendors and their candidates, Alma also emails job leads to her vendor pool several times a week.
“Every day is different and a learning experience,” Alma says. “It’s important to have a culture that supports professional growth.”
