Employee Spotlight: Jennifer Mailly

Jennifer_Mailly.jpgJennifer Mailly is a healthcare recruiter for HealthTrust Workforce Solutions’ (HWS) per diem program. Having only started in November 2015, Jennifer quickly worked her way up from an associate recruiter role to a fulltime recruiter after just eight short months.

At HWS, per diem recruiters are paired with regional recruiters to help them fill their staffing needs. In Jennifer’s case, she is responsible for finding qualified applicants for South Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Virginia. Qualified applicants need at least one year of nursing experience in a hospital setting, and the experience must either be current or have ended within the last 12 months. If the nurse meets this criteria, it’s onto a questionnaire to determine whether the candidate is a good personality fit for the position.

“You need to build relationships with the nurses,” Jennifer says. One important question that comes to mind when Jennifer is speaking with an applicant is, “Would I want this person caring for me or my family?”

Although the minimum criteria may sound easy to meet, recruiting a nurse requires skill and persistence. Recruiters often make 200 to 400 phone calls per week, but may only find 20 applicants who are both qualified and a good personality fit. Jennifer described a recent “tough week” as making 300 phone calls which yielded only 17 candidates.

“You need determination – don’t give up!” Jennifer says. “I had a nurse contact me recently who I reached out to last December.”

Many of those phone calls involve reaching out to prospective employees who have shown interest in HWS's job positings online. When those leads do not fulfill a regional recruiter’s needs, per diem recruiters turn to job sites like Monster and Career Builder to seek out qualified nurses who have posted their resumes online.

Besides recruiting, Jennifer also trains the department’s new hires at the company headquarters in Sunrise, Fla. These employees go on to become associate recruiters, the same role Jennifer started with HWS as less than one year ago.
