Our next clinical HealthTrust Hero is Kathleen Vuong, RN! Kathleen was nominated by St. David's Medical Center's ICU Supervisor for her outstanding customer service and dedication to her patients.
"I would like to pass along a very heartfelt thank you from the family member of a patient. I just got a phone call from a woman named Ms. Grace. Her mother was admitted to our ICU yesterday with a devastating intracranial hemorrhage and a prognosis of likely impending brain death. The family originally planned on withdrawing life support measures and changing her status to comfort care after one last family member arrived today. After some discussion, though, they decided they did not want her to suffer any longer and asked to withdraw care and move to comfort care measures late in the night. Nursing immediately helped them through the decision and helped make the transition.
Ms. Grace called me because she really wanted to express her heartfelt thanks for all the nursing care her mother and the family received, especially from Kathleen Vuong. They said Kat treated them with respect, listened to them when they changed their plan, and made sure to keep her mother comfortable. Kat is a contract labor nurse who does not work with us often, but they said she treated the patient and family with utmost compassion and professionalism during such a difficult time.
Ms. Grace was so thankful for Kat that she wanted to be able to thank her in person. I explained that I am not able to give out staff contact information, but took down Ms. Grace's number. She asked that I pass this information along to Kat and let her know that she does not need to call, but if she wants to Ms. Grace would like to personally thank her."
