Nineteen HealthTrust Workforce Solutions team members have become United Way Reading Pals! Each Reading Pal spends one hour per week reading to a child, completing one book every two weeks. The child gets to keep the books, which they can then practice reading on their own.
Many of the HWS Reading Pals read to children at Flamingo Elementary School who are either in Kindergarten or first grade. For many of these children, this program provides them with their first book.
Reading Pals is an early literacy initiative for young children in Kindergarten through third grade. The program is available in 14 public schools and six childcare sites across Broward County. HWS is moved to be a part of this initiative to make a difference in the community, as early literacy plays an important role in future success and job readiness.
