The U.S. economy continues to steadily expand, having created 156,000 new jobs during the month of August according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Report. Healthcare remains an economic bright spot, having contributed 20,200 jobs last month. Of the growth, 6,400 jobs were added within hospitals and another 11,000 were created in the ambulatory care setting. Overall healthcare has grown by more than 328,000 jobs over the year.
The nation’s economy has averaged 185,000 new jobs a month since June — more than twice as many as needed to put all the new people entering the labor force each month to work. In the second quarter of 2017 the economy expanded at 3%, marking the largest growth spurt in more than two years.
