Hurricane Matthew is expected to impact the United States beginning Thursday morning. HealthTrust Workforce Solutions’ (HWS) corporate office in South Florida is in the path of the storm and will be closed beginning Wednesday afternoon. While HWS is committed to business continuity and has put those plans in place, the greatest priority is the safety of employees.
As HWS prepares to weather the storm, here are some tips for keeping you and your loved ones safe during a hurricane.
The American Red Cross offers a comprehensive guide to hurricane preparation include a Hurricane Safety Checklist. In addition to purchasing water, nonperishable food, and gasoline, the Red Cross urges residents to look into their homeowners insurance to see if flooding is covered. Many standard insurances do not cover flooding, even though storm surge is often the most destructive force to come from a hurricane.
If you do not plan to evacuate, Ready.gov recommends preparing to be without power for several days, even if the storm is not supposed to directly hit your area. Neighborhoods with minimal damage may still be impacted by blocked roadways and isolated flooding, preventing residents from driving outside of the immediate area.
