1 in 5 Nurses Would Have Changed Career Paths, But Why?

20 percent of nurses would have chosen another career path

A Medscape poll shows that about 20 percent of nurses would not go into nursing if they had to start over. The reason might surprise you.

The news isn’t all dire: 95 percent of nurses polled said they were glad they got into the nursing field. However, some unanticipated aspects of the job kept them from feeling completely satisfied.

For Registered Nurses, these were considered the top 3 least satisfying aspects of their jobs:

  • Amount of Documentation Required
  • Amount of Money I am Paid
  • Lack of Respect from Physicians, Managers, or Peers

When asked what they plan to do to change their situation, 21 percent of RNs wanted to pursue a new nursing path, while 31 percent had no definite plan to change jobs, retire, or leave the nursing profession.

If you’re among the 21 percent looking to change paths or the 31 percent whose course of action is undecided, HealthTrust Workforce Solutions can help. Our goal is to take as good of care of you as you take of your patients.
