We would like to congratulate System Administrator Jose Guardarrama on becoming a HealthTrust Hero! Jose’s innovative idea for upgrading the company’s technology earned him a spot among our workforce elite.
Each year, HealthTrust Workforce Solutions and its parent company, HCA Healthcare, work together to identify any outdated technology items that should be replaced, such as older laptops that no longer run smoothly. These technology refreshes can often become costly, which inspired Jose to look for a better solution.
Noticing that the newer laptops had the same body as many of the older ones, Jose proposed that the company replaces each laptop’s internal hardware, such as the hard drive, instead of the entire machine, thereby giving the older laptops the same updated technology as the newer laptops. This proposal lead to a cost savings of about 80 percent per item – a huge savings when multiplied across HealthTrust’s six regional offices and ten local recruitment offices.
“I was able to do this project, but I didn’t do it alone,” says Jose of his team. “When you get the right people around you, anything is possible.”
Jose joined the HCA family in 1988 in the IT Department of Aventura Hospital, where he worked until joining HealthTrust – then called All About Staffing – in 2001. In his current role, Jose is responsible for updating computer hardware, setting up new offices, and implementing projects with his team.
“You need to like to do something different every day,” Jose says about his 30-year career in IT. “There’s no perfect job, but there are people with the right attitude to get the job done.”
In addition to becoming a HealthTrust Hero, Jose also received the Heroes 365 Award from HCA Healthcare for his dedication to going above and beyond each and every day. When he’s not in the office, Jose enjoys traveling with his family.
