Making the Most of Your Nursing Career

Make the most of your nursing career!

Not all nursing jobs are created equal. Learn how to make the most of your nursing career by targeting these locations, facilities, and education paths.

By Location

Nurse.com reports that the highest annual RN salaries are in California. Based on ZipRecruiter’s and HealthTrust’s data, Riverside and San Jose are two California cities with the best career prospects for nurses based on the number of available jobs to the number of job seekers. If you're interested in pursuing your nursing career in California, click here to be contacted by a HealthTrust recruiter.

However, the high salaries offered in California also reflect the state’s high cost of living. The places where nurses could earn high salaries with lower costs of living are Michigan and Idaho, per Nurse.com.

By Facility

The highest median nursing wages are offered at outpatient centers followed by general and surgical hospitals, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. These two types of facilities also account for 45 percent of all nursing industry jobs and have considerable job growth potential.

By Education

On average, nurses with a BSN earn 8 percent more than nurses with an associate’s degree or completed an RN diploma, while nurses with master’s degrees earned 19 percent more. For nurses hesitant to spend more money on their education, Nurse.com notes that education allowance and tuition reimbursement were available for two-thirds of advanced practice nurses and nearly half of all RNs.

For nurses content with their education levels but looking to further specialize, HealthTrust offers the StaRN Nurse Training Program for both new and seasoned nurses. These 10 to 13 week trainings are available in specialties such as medical/surgical, critical care, and behavioral health.
