Recognizing National Kidney Month 2026: 4 Ways to Celebrate & Support the Cause

March is Kidney Month, and we’ve got five great ways you can support the cause! Here’s what nurses and clinicians should know about National Kidney Month, why it matters, and some ideas on how to help lend a hand and spread the word.

Recognizing National Kidney Month 2026

What Is National Kidney Month? Held every March, Kidney Month is a yearly event designed to raise awareness of kidney health and chronic kidney disease, a condition that affects about 35 million Americans and is responsible for about 58,000 deaths every year.

Inspired by and oriented around World Kidney Day a global kidney awareness campaign held on the second Thursday in March National Kidney Month is also a time to recognize the healthcare professionals who have dedicated their careers to delivering the dialysis care that's essential for those with kidney conditions.

It's important to remember that for the tens of millions of people with kidney disease, dialysis care is literally the "only option," with more than 555,000 Americans "currently relying on it to survive.”

And that makes National Kidney Month the perfect time to celebrate these hard-working dialysis care professionals and if you're a nurse or clinician, to consider joining them! Here's what you need to know about supporting and celebrating National Kidney Month in 2026.

4 Ways to Support National Kidney Month

Wondering how to support Kidney Month? Here are a few good places to begin:

1. Spread the word about renal health and kidney disease

The original point of National Kidney Month is to raise awareness about kidney health, among healthcare professionals as well as the public. After all, when it comes to kidney disease, as the VA reminds us, an “ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

That means you can make a difference simply by shouting out organizations like the National Kidney Foundation and American Transplant Foundation on social media, or by boosting hashtags like #NationalKidneyMonth and #KidneyMonth2026.

And don't forget to follow HealthTrust on Facebook, X, and LinkedIn for even more opportunities to engage with others and spread the word about kidney month! The HealthTrust LinkedIn page is also a great place to show your support the dialysis care professionals at the heart of the event.

  • Did you know? Kidney disease is often preventable, and many people can reduce their risk by getting more sleep and improving their nutritional intake and hydration habits, among other simple solutions. Learn more.

#2: Attend or volunteer at local events

Most regional chapters of the NKF have plenty of events and happenings you can attend, like regular screenings, health fairs, donor workshops, support groups, and more. Find your local NKF chapter for opportunities to participate or volunteer, or check to see what events your employer may be holding.

#3. Refer someone to a dialysis job

Do you know a nurse or dialysis tech who's seeking a new job, or maybe a better one? If so, you can help support Kidney Month by referring them to a great new career opportunity with HealthTrust!
